Service Description

Lyra, also known as aerial hoop, is an aerial art form that alchemizes the strength and athleticism of traditional sport with the grace, flexibility, and intuitive expressionism of dance. Securely suspended from the ceiling on a steel circular hoop, students will work towards executing various level-appropriate poses, transitions, rolls, drops, and spins over multiple class series. With instructor approval, graduates of the required Foundations series will go on to learn progressively challenging skills as well as have the opportunity to learn and create original choreography. All Foundations students (regardless of age or prior aerial experience) will start by learning fundamental strength-building and conditioning exercises and by practicing balance and body awareness both in and out of the hoop. Students will also be taught how to safely mount, dismount, and perform a short sequence of moves within the hoop over the course of the series. Spin techniques will NOT be introduced in the Foundations curriculum. SERIES POLICY: No refunds but series can be saved as credits. This payment signs you up for all three classes in the series. If there is a class you cannot make in this series, it can be used a credit for July's session. ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Megan (she/they) received her Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from Carthage College in 2013, graduating with all-college honors and honors in her department. Driven by her ongoing passion to create with more complete, authentic expression, she went on to explore a variety of movement arts disciplines; since 2015, Megan has been blessed to train across the Midwest in burlesque, pole, barre, trapeze, silks, sling, and her absolute favorite apparatus - the lyra! Megan officially "ran away to join the circus" as soon as she discovered her love of aerial dance, and lyra specifically, in January of 2023. She has joyfully devoted countless hours to developing and polishing her techniques, and continues to advance her skills as she begins her journey as a traveling instructor at Creations Wellness!
